As your blog starts to grow and you’re adding more and more posts, chances are readers won’t see every single post you write. Why not make it easy for them to find related content by cross linking it where appropriate.
Here’s what I mean. Let’s say you blog about social media marketing and this particular post talks about using images effectively on Facebook. You could link within that post to an older post where you talk about using images on Instagram, or a post where you explained how to boost marketing with stock photography. Do you see how this works?
For example, you can connect a blog post about how to grow your pet business with another blog post about tips for working at home with your pets because if you have a pet business you most likely have pets too. This pretty easy stuff, right?
This strategy serves a few different purposes. You’re engaging your readers more with your content. This gives them a chance to get to know you and your log a little better. It also means you’re getting more exposure to your ads and your visitor numbers will start to look better. It also helps you with search engines, believe it or not. They keep track of how long readers stay on your site and if they click around to read more. This is an indication of the quality of your content and your blog. In other words, if you can get readers to stick around longer, it will help your blog rank higher in the search engines.
Let’s not forget about the positive influence this has on your readers. You’re going out of your way to be helpful and share all sorts of great information with them. Not only does this allow your readers to get to know you better, it also builds credibility and trust which is exactly what you want.
Last but not least, the more pages you convince your readers to take a look at, the higher your chances that they’ll comment or share your links on social media. That, in turn, will help you broaden your reach and grow your audience.

What a wise idea! In all my years of blogging, I’ve never done a round up post. Since I’m doing artificial intelligence research, I may start a round up there at the end of the week or early next week.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, this all makes sense.
This goes beyond having the blog listing of previous and next posts and recommending related posts because it would be directly in line with the text they are reading and can even open in a new window . + +

I love the quote that you have in this blog post. This post was great – it was short and sweet and provided simple instructions that will make it easy for your followers to take action on the information in the post. And it had the desired effect, I was able to check out a few of the other posts you had linked in the article.

I like the way you are combining multi-purpose and multi-task tips. I like the reference to being able to help instead of just wanting to assist.
The puppy dog image really caught my attention. such a cutie!

I like reading “connected” posts. It shows me that the blogger knows their stuff, and you are absolutely right. The more I read, the more I am likely to come back to that blogger and the more I am likely to share it. That bit hadn’t occurred to me before you highlighted it It also helps me with the “know, like and trust” aspect as a blog is more personal than the rest of the words on a website.

Thank you for writing this compelling post. I’ve seen people link to other posts on their site, but I didn’t know that it boosts our search engine ranking to keep people on our site longer. I’m also intrigued how you offer a closely related resource at the end of the post. Thank you.

Great article Amanda, I love the idea of linking to previous posts. I rarely remember to link to related posts, but it really is a great way to keep people on your blog longer. Thanks for sharing this info. I’m going to definitely put it to work on my next post.

Even though we bemoan the “rabbit holes” we fall into on the internet, we get all those pleasant dopamine hits when we’re clicking around. The more clicking around you enable your reader to do on your site, the more they’ll associate your blog as a satisfying experience. I’m always surprised when I land on a website & I’m having to actively search for related topics. The ones where I get lost clicking around, are the ones I remember to visit again. Great post!

Great post. A simple strategy that could have exponential effects. This line, “if you have a pet business you most likely have pets too.” was an aha moment for me. It gave me an insight to all the topics I could find that would be of interest and benefit to my readers. Thank you!
